Kyu Exam Eligibility

Enso generally holds kyu exams every 3 months. However, not every student tests at every exam. As a general guide, we consider three things in determining a student’s eligibility to test:

  • Minimum Training

    Students generally must take a minimum number of classes to be considered for promotion.

  • Rank Standards

    The exam requirements outline which kihon (basics) and kata (forms) students must perform without assistance to advance to the next rank.

  • Ability Considerations

    We also consider age and other factors that might impact an individual’s ability to perform the exam requirements. Enso strives to be an inclusive place that recognizes both effort and skill.
