Friday Fun Night

Karate Demo at The Bash on Wabash 2014

Fall Session Auto-Renew Tuition Payments will be processed
For continuing karate students who are on auto-renew, payments for the next session will be processed on August 23, 2014. We are glad to be able to offer the auto-renew option as a convenience to you, and we’re grateful that it helps make our administrative process much more efficient. Payments not made with auto-renew incur an additional $15 fee. Please email us by August 17 if you want to join or change your auto-renew status. Questions? Summer Break II (No Karate classes)
Enso will break for one week at the end of August through the Labor Day holiday. We look forward to getting back to karate training in class when we return! No karate classes will be held at all dojo locations during this summer break.

Belt Exams
Exam starts at 9:00 AM; arrival times vary according to rank
Belt exams for kyu ranks (below black belt) will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the Chicago dojo. Please see the eligibility list for arrival times (Sent by email to current students and available at the dojo).If you are eligible to test, please register by Friday, September 19, 2014 at 7:00 PM. Prompt registration is appreciated so that we can properly plan and organize the test day.
If you are not testing, please remember that regularly scheduled karate classes are canceled on September 27, 2014 – but you can still come out to watch exams and support your classmates! Please contact us with any questions about testing. As always, all students and families are invited to watch our examinations for belt promotions.
Fee: $35
Fall Session tuition must be paid in order to take the test.Eligibility: Students who are on the eligibility list are permitted to take the exam.
Register: Students must pay and register by Friday, September 19, 2014 at 7:00 PM in order to be placed on the exam-day roster. Receipt of exam fee payment confirms your spot in the exam.
There are multiple ways to register:
- Register yourself or your child online for the September 27, 2014 exam.
- Email info@ensokarate.com with permission to charge your account.
- Pay in person or provide permission to charge your account by Friday, September 19, 2014
Make-up exam is Friday, October 10, 2014 at 7:00pm; Extra $10 fee. Please only attend this make-up exam if you cannot attend the belt exam on Saturday, September 27, 2014. Register online for the make-up exam.

Enso Elite Karate Tournament Team Informational Meeting

Interested in competing with our tournament team, Enso Elite, in the 2014-2015 season? Learn about being involved in the team at our informational meeting on Saturday, October 4th from 2:00 -4:00 PM. The Enso Elite team is open to youth (ages 7 and up) and adult karate students. Parents and interested athletes are invited to attend.
Joining the team is a great way to gain competition experience, develop good sportsmanship, and be part of a team!

Focus Shotokan Junior Karate Tournament

This event will provide a great opportunity for students who are new to competition, as well as for those with more tournament experience.

Intro to Tai Chi Push Hands
11:15 AM - 12: 45 PMLaunching our once-per-month “Special Saturday” events, we are happy to present an Introduction to Tai Chi Push Hands on Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 11:15 PM to 12:45 PM.
Most people think of Tai Chi as a series of slow, flowing movements. And it is! But Tai Chi is also a sophisticated close-in fighting system. Tai Chi Push Hands is the dynamic two-person exercise that serves as a bridge from solo Tai Chi form work to fighting.
Tai Chi Push Hands helps develop the ability to sense, deflect, and return incoming force, all while staying rooted and maintaining relaxed balance and presence. Tai Chi Push Hands can also provide an excellent warm up or cool down for karate students. Plus it’s fun to do!
Join us on October 11, 2014 for this special workshop with Enso Tai Chi Instructor Chris Cinnamon. Open to all adult karate students and teen brown belts and above.

Black Belt Exams

We have a very special event coming up on Saturday, November 15, 2014! Some of our students will be testing for their black belt or a higher black belt degree. All Enso students and families are welcome to watch the event and support the examinees! Black Belt Awards Luncheon
Following the exams, we will have a luncheon where we will announce the results. We’d love to have you join us. If you are interested in joining us for lunch, we will be ordering Jimmy Johns sandwiches. Lunch fee is $10 per person and will include a drink, a sandwich, and chips. Karate Seminars with Sensei Dwight Holley
Saturday, November 15, 2014 is a very special day for us at Enso Shotokan Karate! We will be hosting our annual black belt exams and an enriching karate seminar with our dear friend and mentor from Cincinnati, Sensei Dwight Holley, 8th dan.Class Schedule
Due to these events, our 10 AM (advanced kata) and 11 AM (adult intermediate/advanced) classes will be canceled. The 9 AM (family all levels) class WILL be held. Everyone is invited to attend this class.
Session 1: Understanding and Applying Kata
10:00 AM – 11:15 AM
Open to students ages 7 and up, all ranks
Students will gain a deeper understanding of kata in this session, focusing on bunkai (analysis/application) and oyo (close quarter techniques of the kata). We strongly suggest this seminar for our students, from beginners to advanced.
Session 2: Advanced Kata Session
11:30 AM – 12:45 PM
Open to brown and black belts only, all ages
A true treat for advanced students! If you are interested in learning a new, interesting kata to practice, don’t miss out on this seminar. Open to only brown and black belts, all ages.
Fee
$20 for one session. $35 for two sessions.
