Meet Our Instructors

We are pleased to introduce the instructors of our karate program. We aim to maintain a community of skilled, friendly, and trusted instructors who are role models in and outside of our dojo. In addition to the instructors listed here, our team of assistant instructors take part in teaching and guiding students.

Jay Nacu

Enso Co-Director, Head Karate Instructor, Head Enso Elite Karate Team Coach

Sensei Jay Nacu (Godan, 5th degree black belt) has been training in the martial arts for over 20 years. He teaches classes at Enso’s Chicago and Oak Park locations, as well as in various after school karate programs in Chicago. With his wife, Sensei Denise Nacu, he has been leading the Enso Karate program since 2002.

Saul Notario

Karate Instructor, Enso Elite Karate Team Coach

Sensei Saul Notario (Godan, 5th degree black belt) has been a martial arts practitioner for almost 30 years, having trained in different martial arts since the age of 14.  As a senior instructor at Enso, he currently teaches classes at the Chicago dojo and is a coach of the Enso Elite Karate Team.

Denise Nacu

Enso Co-Director, Karate Instructor, Enso Elite Karate Team Coach

Sensei Denise Nacu (Yondan, 4th degree black belt) co-directs Enso and teaches youth and adult students.  A practitioner of Shotokan karate since 1996, she values karate for the many ways it can improve and enhance one’s mental and physical well-being.  As a leader of the Enso dojo, she believes the values fostered in the dojo community are critical to getting the most from traditional martial arts training.

Vikky Fernandez

Karate Instructor

Vikky Fernandez (Sandan, 3rd degree black belt) started training in  Shotokan Karate in 1997. She has been teaching at Enso for many years at the Chicago dojo and in afterschool programs.

Elaine Cesar

Karate Instructor, Enso Elite Karate Team Coach

Elaine Cesar (Nidan, 2nd degree black belt) began studying Shotokan Karate in 2010. In addition to training and teaching youth classes at both Chicago and Oak Park locations, she coaches the Enso Elite Karate Team.

Katie Coleman

Assistant Karate Instructor, Enso Elite Karate Team Coach

Katie Coleman (Nidan, 2nd degree black belt) began studying Shotokan Karate in 2009. She trains at both the Chicago and Oak Park locations, helps teach family classes in Oak Park, and coaches the Enso Elite Karate Team.

Sam Frame

Assistant Karate Instructor

Sam Frame (Nidan, 2nd degree black belt) has been training in Shotokan for about 12 years.  At Enso, he currently helps teach youth and adult classes.
