Indoor Karate Training at CSO Multiplex

In April 2021, Enso will begin hosting limited indoor training sessions in addition to our robust schedule of Zoom classes. Please see below for our guidelines.

Where will the indoor trainings be held?

We are searching for short-term rental locations in the South Loop, Oak Park, and Hyde Park. Our first location will be the CSO Multiplex — a large sports facility located in Hyde Park. Some of you may be familiar with this venue because Enso hosted the 2019 Chicagoland Karate-do Challenge (CKC) tournament in this space.

Enso has secured a portion of one of the large gyms for our training sessions. Our space is sectioned off with a floor-to-ceiling mesh curtain, and Enso’s mats have been brought in. However, please note that other athletes from other sports programs may be using the rest of the gym while we are there.

Locker rooms are available at the facility, but we recommend you arrive in your gi. Other sports programs will be using the same locker rooms, and we cannot control the flow of other people using these common areas.

What are the registration protocols?

Pre-registration (no later than 24 hours before class time) is required for participation, and classes will be limited to 20 students. There is a $20 drop-in fee for each session to cover our rental costs. Pre-registration can be completed online.

All students and guests will also need to complete a waiver for the CSO facility.

What are the COVID protocols?

Upon registration, we will ask all students to agree to notify Enso (info@ensokarate.comif any of the following scenarios are confirmed or suspected for either the Enso student or a member of their household in the last 14 days:

  • Tested positive for COVID-19;
  • Exhibited COVID-19-related symptoms (cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, or fever of 100.4);
  • Informed that they have had close contact with a COVID-19-positive person; or
  • Traveled to an area with widespread, ongoing transmission of COVID-19 (including any state or territory designated by the City of Chicago Department of Public Health Emergency Travel Order).

Additionally, if an Enso student who attends an indoor training session later tests positive or begins exhibiting symptoms, we ask that the student/their family inform us immediately. We will not share the student’s name, but we will inform other students who were present at the same training session that someone they trained with tested positive.

How will training be conducted safely?

All students and parents/guests must observe these rules during indoor training:

  • Wear a mask at all times. Masks may only be taken off briefly during designated water breaks, when students will be kept at a distance.
  • Maintain distance during kata and basics. We are limiting the size of our gathering to 20 people so that instructors can place students at appropriate intervals.
  • Maintain distance on the sidelines. If parents stay to observe the training, we ask them to maintain a 6-foot distance from each other, while wearing their mask.
  • No touching — but controlled sparring with gear. We will not conduct any drills that require direct skin-to-skin touching, but we will practice free-sparring with our fist guards on as well as sparring drills using the pads. All personal and dojo gear will be disinfected before group/partner kumite activities.
  • Bring your own… Please remember to bring the following with you:
    • Extra masks in case your first one gets sweaty!
    • Your own personal water bottle, marked with your name.
    • Your own sparring gear, if you have some.
    • Hand sanitizer, if you want your own (we’ll have some too!).
    • Your gi (we recommend arriving in it)
  • Help us maintain a safe environment! We all need a little help remembering how to stay safe in these new and changing circumstances. If an instructor, assistant, black belt helper, or even a fellow parent or student reminds you about these guidelines, we ask for your understanding and cooperation.
